Patent prosecution for U.S. subsidiaries of large Dutch multinational company, including PTO interviews and appeals. Responsible for broad spectrum of coatings technology, with accompanying trademark docket; additional prosecution and patent studies in areas of petroleum refining catalysts/processes and electronic materials and components. U.S. filings & prosecution for applications originated by company’s European attorneys; coordination of foreign filings conducted by them for U.S. originated cases. See U.S. Pat. Patent Attorney – Texaco Development Corp., White Plains, NY     1989-1991
Patent prosecution in areas of polymeric materials, synthetic molecular sieves and process control; petrochemicals, including complex organic additives for fuels and lubricants; and coal gasification. Visits to Texaco research centers/contractors’ sites and interviews with Patent Examiners. See U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,973,411; 5,062,980.
Patent Attorney – Fisher, Christen & Sabol, Washington, DC     1985 – 1989
Patent prosecution, infringement and validity opinions, and some litigation support. Extensive independent client contact and PTO interviews. Prosecuted a group of applications for a major chemical company which concerned molecular sieves, catalysts and processes for hydrocarbon refining, including the preparation of appeal briefs and subsequent related applications. Other subject areas included food chemistry, various polymers, chemical processes and simple mechanical, optical and medical devices, plus design patents. Experience with foreign filing and prosecution of U.S. applications, as well as U.S. filings for foreign applicants. Trademark prosecution.
Patent Attorney – Phillips Petroleum Co., Barrtlesville, OK     1981-1984
Evaluated inventions for presentation and recommendation to Inventions Committee. Prepared, filed and prosecuted patent applications. Major subject areas included petroleum and organic chemistry, including drilling fluids, enhanced oil recovery and water-soluble polymers; polymer compositions, including resins, elastomers and electrically-conductive materials; nonwoven fabric applications; and mechanical cases involving heat exchangers, filters and carbon black reactors.
